Tournament Highlights
* The 41 degree temperature for our first tee time was an ALL TIME RECORD LOW for KC on September 13th - go figure: http://www.wunderground.com/history/zipcode/64121/2014/9/13/DailyHistory.html?cm_ven=TWC&cm_ite=History&MR=1 |
  |
* Erik Heintz hit the inaugural tee shot for the Cuervo Classic on the 223-yard par 3 first hole at Hillcrest Golf and Country Club. |
  |
* Steve Marshall pitched in from 70 yards on the 18th hole in front of several of the groups who had finished previously for the only eagle of the day. Later groups asked what had happened as they had "heard a roar". |
The Field
To control the size of the inaugural Cuervo Classic event, we decided to limit tournament registration to graduating seniors from the Shawnee Mission East Class of 1999 and the brothers of a few select "Founding Cuervo Members".
Tournament Beneficiary
It happens that in the summer 2014, we lost a great man - Coach William Glenn Percy. Whether through football, drivers education, or U.S. History, Coach Percy was a great influence in the lives of many of the attendees in this tournament. It seems only fitting that this year's tournament benefit "The Coach Glenn Percy Ottawa University Football Scholarship" at Ottawa University. Modified Stableford/Chicago Format
We decided to develop our own format for the Cuervo, and the primary criteria included: |
  |
   * Make the Cuervo Classic different from the standard charity "scramble" format. |
   * Keep infrequent golfers relevant in the tournament until the final hole. |
   * Limit the number of strokes on a given hole to double bogey to maintain a reasonable pace of play. |
  |
Per the Chicago format, each team will begin the day with a negative number of points based on their combined team |
handicaps. This ensures that teams with a seasoned player have to score better to get out of their starting hole than |
teams with two infrequent players. The winning team will be the pair that accumulates the most points by the end of their round. |
  |
Per the modified Stableford scoring, points will be earned according to the following scoring table: |
  |
Double Bogey | 1 |
Bogey | 2 |
Par | 4 |
Birdie | 6 |
Eagle | 8 |
Double Eagle | 10 |
