Tournament Highlights

  • Players returned to Hillcrest following a 2-year COVID hiatus and were met by a beautiful late summer morning for the 7th Cuervo Classic played in the past 9 years.
  • In a true Cuervo miracle, all 20 players both showed up and paid on time! Big thanks to everyone for making things easy on the tournament organizers.
  • The Hillcrest starter, Floyd, was a friendly character who kept the groups moving along and was very proud of Hillcrest’s new “white sand” bunkers.
  • Josh Kopmeyer reached the back of the green from a buried lie in the rough on the Par 5 13th hole and Steve Marshall dropped a 40 foot eagle putt which propelled the championship team to a closing 29 on the back 9.
  • Juice was sadly unable to attend the post-tournament lunch as he had a hot date right after golf.
  • After evaluating around 10 tournament scoring apps, we settled on GolfPad Events for this year. Unfortunately it was a flop as inconsistent scoring confirmation behavior led to struggles in updating all team's scores in real time. We'll try another solution next year!
  • Due to substantially rising costs for golf this year, we were unfortunately unable to make a charitable contribution this year. The remaining funds from this year will be combined with next year's proceeds to ensure an impactful sum.
  • Big thanks as always to Nick Reddell for the t-shirts, we hope to have him back in the field next year.

Steve English Award of 'Excellence'

Steve English Award of 'Excellence'

This award is bestowed upon the participant in the field that causes the most problems for the organizing committee each year, be it completely not showing up, oversleeping and missing the first tee time, or anything else that may be encountered in future years. Let's just say that it is NOT an honor to receive this award.

Happy to announce that there was no recipient of the award this year - everyone showed up and paid on time this year, even Evan Close!

Teams

2022 Cuervo Classic Teams

Format: Four Man Scramble

Here's how our four-man scramble works:

  • Each member of the team will hit a tee shot (in any order).
  • The team will decide which shot they would prefer to play and then go retrieve the other balls.
  • Each member then plays a shot from the spot of the preferred ball.
  • Continue this cycle until the ball is holed out.
  • THERE ARE NO GIMMES OR MULLIGANS - no do-overs, and all putts must be holed out.
  • Lift, clean, and place or "preferred" lies are in effect: players may place ball within a club length of where balls rests.
  • The maximum score on a given hole is double bogey.
  • Balls lost or hit out of bounds (white stakes) should be played like a lateral hazard: two club lengths from the spot the ball appeared to be lost, no closer to the hole and a 1 shot penalty.
  • If necessary, a sudden death playoff will ensue on Hole #1 or Hole #18 (depending on timing and availability) and proceed until a winner is determined.
  • If a sudden death playoff is not possible, a scorecard playoff will be implemented awarding the victory to the team with a lower score on the first hole working in order of hardest to easiest based on hole handicap.
